Grindrod Limited, a JSE-listed freight logistics company and one of South Africa’s privately owned heavy-haul rail operators, is making progress in its commitment to deliver a sustainable rail offering through its integrated pit-to-port solution.

The company announced the return of 13 locomotives that were shipped from Sierra Leone and arrived in the port of Durban on 22 August, after the conclusion of a successful operation in which over 18 million tonnes of iron ore were hauled over three years. This project is a testament to Grindrod’s expertise in managing heavy-haul trains.

Rail plays a pivotal role in Grindrod’s integrated logistics solutions, offering efficiency and cost-effectiveness, especially for dry-bulk and container flows. The company’s rail strategy is centred on fostering partnerships with rail authorities and operators, and expanding and enabling rail growth opportunities within the Southern African Development Community and East Africa regions.

Central to this strategy is its unwavering commitment to ensuring the sustainability of its customers’ cargo flows, for the mutual benefit of all key stakeholders.
